A canvas area object is used to visually group together other objects. Canvas area objects appear behind all other objects. Canvas objects can have labels and extra information attached to them. The extra information is not displayed (unlike with comment objects which display both pieces of information)
Older versions of SQLEditor used special types of comment object instead of a dedicated canvas area object. To improve compatibility you can convert Comment objects into Canvas Area objects or vice-versa.
